Let There Be Rest

Proverbs 14:33 Wisdom has her resting-place in the mind of the wise, but she is not seen among the foolish.

The point is: I like rest. Well, not the point of this verse; let me assure you, I am not the personification of wisdom.

My personal affinity to respite is the point of this blog. Much of the work in which I have engaged myself in the last almost-three months has been rewarding in and of itself. Studying the biblical Scriptures, teaching the principles contained therein, and working in the yard have been, in a sense, both work and rest. Would that feasting on the word of the Lord were the default activity of my soul! Praise God that I am a work in progress, and I have been given everything I need to participate in the renewal of my mind!

After many consecutive days spent in work, whether physical or mental, the body needs to be rejuvenated. This weekend, therefore, we are taking an extended Sabbath...at the beach. In the words of Horatio Cane [that I am making up right now], "There are three types of board: wake surf...and boogie. (((YEAAAAAAAA))) Thanks, H. With that said, last night I went to a Jazz Club and, let me tell you, it was smooth, which is my favorite type of jazz. It was soothing to let the sounds slip right through the slits of the wall I had built around my soul's own sacred place. Jazz must be linked with the fiber of who I am. I was there for a few hours to hear and feel and participate in the music. What does that mean? you might ask. It means that we're in Accra for a few days. This is vacation time, set aside for the family to be revived from the toll of the culmination of the stresses that have done their work on us all.

With that said, I may be AWL Tuesday, because I might give myself leave that day; not of thought, strictly speaking, but of this electronic repository in which a few of mine (let us not go down that particular philosophical rabbit trail at the moment) are held. So I also encourage you to carve out some time to rest your body and mind from its labors. Let not your guard down, but rest in the knowledge that the work you have done is fruitful, and that the world will not implode just because your shoulders are not beneath it.

You don't want the joints in the Body getting arthritis, do you?

Aaaand here is a picture of my dogs. I just found out how to post pictures with this new-fangled machine. Gbenga is the darker, Chino is the darker...just kidding. I hope I did it right.
