"To lead the people, walk behind them." - Lao Tzu
"Lead from the back and let others believe they are in front" - Nelson Mandela
That is what President Obama seemed to be trying to accomplish in his words to the nation yesterday. As with any leader, may the Lord steer his heart through the streams of heavenly wisdom and conviction, to be faithful, as he said, "to God and country."
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his well-recognized "I Have A Dream" speech at the March on Washington fifty years ago, yesterday. The Elysee Treaty was signed this same date, fifty years ago as well. Germany and France, and Europe: celebrate well!
Finally, Israel has a national election today. I do not know how this will influence relations with Iran and its nuclear program, but I pray that the result will lead to the best resolution. PM Netanyahu faces some tough decisions in that regard, to be sure.
(This is what happens when I post while watching the 'International Desk.')
A short note:
1 Peter 2:16
Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.
Freedom is a powerful notion, among the most fundamental desires of humanity. At the same time, I do not contend that one should count impulse to be chief of all freedoms. For while impulse has no restraint, there are other, equally integral desires which governs us. Let acceptance, improvement, and hope stand tall amongst them. Freedom has a place of origin, and freedom has a destination. It is not an end in itself. Citizens in the kingdom of God have been granted, on Earth, freedom from the penalty and power of sin, which leads to death. Furthermore, we have been given freedom to live lives of positive impact in eternity. That positive impact is, generally put, glorifying and (in the case of we who know him) worshipping and enjoying God's presence, and inviting others to do the same. From this perspective the human condition is one of under-freedom. We have become free to place ourselves again under bondage, this time willingly, and with promises of the best sort.
We will always serve someone or something. The questions are, is this the best master? willingly or no? to our demise, or betterment? and, to our ultimate satisfaction?
