I missed posting yesterday because I was preparing to preach to a group of students at a high school in Brewaniase (breh-wen-ee-ah-si), a place about 30 minutes from Nkwanta. So, I am posting today.
At Ntrusec, the short name of the aforementioned secondary school, I had the opportunity to let the students know about how to care for the Body of Christ. Just like one tends to one's own body, what with soap, combs, lotions, clothes, etc., so too Jesus' disciples should annoint the Lord's global body. From Colossians chapter 3, verse 14, "Above all, clothe yourselves in love, which binds us together in perfect harmony."
Imagine if your body's various parts just "up and decided" not to get along with each other! That is, imagine that one day you decide you want to go get a meal. As you sit down to eat, your thumbs quite literally remove themselves from the rest of your body, to go to wait do whatever it is that dismembered thumbs do. Or imagine that, as you are making your way through a park on a leisurely stroll, your left leg decides to go on home, baving become fatigued sooner than the rest of your body's members. O, what a body that would be!
Now, consider the spiritual body of Christ. Its members all and each have differing opinions, strengths, and shortcomings. What keeps it from unraveling at a moment's notice? It is the power of God, for one (read Colossians 1:17), and the love of the saints for one another, as well. It is that την αγαπην love that we need to show to the other members of the body, the unconditional, reckless, love with abandon with which God loves you. That is what holds together this ragtag body of saved-by-grace-saints into a representation of the presence of the Almighty God on this earth.
Therefore, let us take care of the body of Christ. Amen.
In other news, today saw the first rains of the rainy season! It has been a few months since the last showers because, as I am sure you figured out, it was dry season. The change is exciting; once we get out of February, and part of the way through March, then the daily weather will be quite cool compared to now. I think the whole country is waiting for the cool air to roll in for good. That is, of course, until it gets here and, like all people with change, someone begins to wish for heat. The cycle continues. For the time being, we are all relieved to get a reprieve from the dry hotness. Even my dogs stayed in the open when the drizzling started today.
I am still tired from the past weekend at Redemption Chapel, if you can imagine that. The morning run Saturday, the extended service Sunday (the youth were fundraising after the main part of the service...for a couple of hours), and leaving the house at 6 a. m. today for Brewaniase are all playing their parts to wear me out. So, well past my bedtime, I am going to make my way to sleep in the so-near-future-it-might-as-well-be-the-present.
