Wednesday, I was privy to one of the worst nightmares of the domestic animal kingdom (or any kingdom, for that matter): neutering.
In an effort to preserves my dogs' dignity, I will refrain from documenting their operation here. Suffice it to say that they are alive and healthy and, after much mutual sniffing in a certain area, very likely quite confused. (Note my expert use of adverbs.) I would add that I count myself a firsthand witness.
I was there to make sure that my dogs could not attack their vet. Specifically, I was hold the dogs during the administration of the tranquilizing agent, there to calm the canines as they began to resist sleep, to protect them from hurting themselves when their strength was leaving them, and to keep them from botching the procedure as they regained consciousness...and strength. For the record, the little guys were tough; their fighting instinct made me so proud! In fact, the first round of medicine was not even strong enough to weaken them sufficiently. Take that and like it!
I would like to move on swiftly from that subject, pray you. I can sense your permission. You have my thanks.
I am now a facilitator to at least two groups of one each, excluding myself, of course. So far, we have learned about observation. We have gathered anywhere from 25 to 50 observations from 2 Peter, chapter 1, verses 3 and 4. We have briefly covered genre, including Poetry, Hymn/Psalm, Narrative, Epistle, and Prophecy. With one group, Hebrews may be our first book to survey. With the other, we are more inclined toward one such as James. Both of the groups are serious about their study, and have been quite surprised at the value of looking at Scripture as a piece of literature, not only as a revered and divine set of dictations, if you will.
Together, we are trying to learn the importance of the conjunction and the pronoun, the dependent clause and the adverb, so as to have a clear understanding of the surface, that we might better see what lay beneath. I aim to pass off the tools of biblical study, so that they may, in turn, do the same. Ah discipleship! So pleasant when everyone involved is intent on spiritual maturation.
I have been in Nkwanta by myself from Wednesday to Friday. Not that all the inhabitants have vacated, but just my parents, mind you. They went to the capital for some business matters. I have my own matters here to which I needed to attend, so I stayed. The electricity went off not 8 hours after their departure, but has since come back; hopefully with renewed vigor. Tomorrow should be Sunday, at least for me; you know how the days like to go roguenowadays. If it happens to be Sunday, then I'll go to a church service. Regardless, I will praise the Lord. Good thing God is always worthy....
